Louise Cunningham
Internal communications strategist. Founder of CommsKit. Former agency leader.

I work with internal comms and people teams in complex, frontline-heavy organisations to make communication clearer, more consistent and genuinely useful. Not flashier or louder – just easier to understand and easier to act on.
I’ve spent over 25 years working across brand, marketing and communications, mainly in industries where clarity and trust really matter – including mining, logistics, and other safety-critical, operational environments with large, distributed workforces.
Originally trained as a graphic designer, I co-founded and led Halo Media, a specialist creative agency working with global clients across the UK, Europe, Africa, the US and Australia. Over time, that work evolved into CommsKit – a systematised internal communications service designed to help organisations move away from reactive, one-off messaging and towards repeatable, sustainable communication.
What I’ve seen repeatedly is this: when brand and communications are treated as separate disciplines, both suffer. Brand defines the foundations – what an organisation stands for, how it shows up, what it prioritises. Internal communications is how that brand is translated into everyday understanding and behaviour. They’re joined at the hip. One without the other creates confusion or empty statements that never quite land.
Much of my work focuses on closing that gap – creating shared language, clearer priorities and communication systems that don’t rely on heroics or constant reinvention. The aim is to simplify, build understanding and free people up to focus on work that actually needs their judgement.
I’m particularly interested in:
- Frontline and deskless workforce communications
- Consistency as a lever for trust, safety and scale
- Design as a behavioural change tool
- Integrating brand with employee engagement
- The practical, governed use of AI in internal comms
Alongside my client and product work, I’m a regular speaker and contributor within the internal communications space. I’m a winner of EY Winning Women 2024 and contribute to internal comms events and forums, sharing practical thinking on how teams can work more strategically with limited time and resources.
My perspective is shaped by lived experience – working alongside organisations, advising leadership teams, and seeing first-hand where comms breaks down when attention is stretched, systems are missing and expectations are high.
