    Halo Media becomes CommsKit™

TLDR: Halo Media – the design and communications business behind this work since 2008 – is now CommsKit. Same team, sharper model. CommsKit is a managed internal communications system for large, complex organisations: structured like software, accountable like a service. Four modules – ENGAGE, CONNECT, LOOP, and ONBOARD – each solving a distinct part of the problem.

    Where this started

Eighteen years ago, we started a design business. What we didn’t expect was that most of what we’d learn would be about a single, persistent problem: why internal communications fails in large organisations – and why the available solutions keep making it worse.

Over time, our work gravitated towards some of the most complex workforce environments around. Mining operations. Energy facilities. Transport networks. Manufacturing plants. Large headcounts, mixed access to technology, real operational pressure – and internal communications models that hadn’t kept pace with any of it.

We kept solving the same problem in different places. That pattern became the business.

“We’ve spent years watching talented comms teams fight the same battles – not because they lack ability, but because they lack a system. That’s what we’ve built. Not a tool. Not a campaign. A system that holds the consistency they need but can never quite maintain alone.”

    What we kept finding

Across every sector and every engagement, the same patterns showed up.

Too many channels, none of them governed. Messages that reached some employees and missed others entirely. Frontline teams finding out about changes third-hand, or not at all. Comms managers holding together HR updates, safety information, leadership messaging and cultural content with too little time and no repeatable system underneath it. Managers being used as the primary distribution mechanism for information they barely understood themselves.

The intention was rarely the problem. The structure was.

Why the existing options weren’t enough

The market offered two answers. Neither was quite right.

    Software vs Agency

Software platforms promised order and consistency – and sometimes delivered it, for organisations with the internal capacity to run them properly. But a platform without governance goes stale. Without a team to populate it, maintain it and keep it relevant, the tool exists and the system doesn’t. Most organisations don’t have that capacity sitting idle.

Agencies offered quality – but on a brief-by-brief basis. Strong output, disconnected from any ongoing rhythm. The moment the brief stopped, the work stopped. There was no continuity, no cadence, no structure that outlasted the project.

Most large organisations don’t need more software to manage or more ad-hoc output to commission. They need something that runs – consistently, month after month, without requiring constant internal resource to sustain it.

That’s what we’d been building towards, without yet having a name for it.

The gap CommsKit is here to fill

CommsKit is a managed internal communications system – with the structure of software and the accountability of a service.

It sits deliberately between the two existing options. Not a platform that clients must configure, govern and maintain themselves. Not an agency producing work in response to individual briefs. A managed system: structured, governed, calendar-driven, and built to run independently of internal bandwidth.

Four modules – ENGAGE, CONNECT, LOOP, and ONBOARD – each solving a distinct part of the problem. They work independently. They work better together.

A structured monthly programme of internal campaigns, planned and delivered on a fixed cadence – without requiring briefs.

A fully governed employee hub, maintained and updated for you – a single, reliable access point for company information– even to those without a company email address

An AI system trained only on your approved company knowledge – giving employees answers and surfacing real information gaps.

A controlled, repeatable onboarding experience from offer acceptance to Day 90 – designed for mixed-access, mixed-literacy workforces.

What this means for Halo clients

The name has changed. The team hasn’t. And the work that earned the trust of clients like Rio Tinto, South32, Unilever, and BASF hasn’t either.

What has changed is that we’re done describing ourselves in terms that flatten what we actually do. CommsKit is the name for a model that already existed – now visible, structured and built for scale.

For existing clients: nothing changes on your end.
